The other honorees were theology teacher Sister Mary Ann Gaughens and administrative assistant Marge Garvin.

At the June 7 graduation, Burpulis was among the Golden Girls, those St. Hubert alums who graduated 50 years ago. She was chosen to walk the class of 2017 flag up the aisle, waving it enthusiastically until reaching the stage.

Burpulis said she still enjoys teaching, but is retiring to spend more time with her 16-month-old granddaughter, Stella Isabel.

The youngster was at the graduation wearing a “Future Bambie” shirt. She’ll be the class of 2034.

Marianne Sisco Burpulis grew up in the Italian parish of Our Lady of Consolation, in Tacony. After graduating from St. Hubert, she attended Temple. Her husband, Stamatis, made the Bambie sculpture that sits outside of the school.

Among the students she taught was her daughter, Marisa, class of 2002. ••
